The opening act for the show featured a guest designer of customized leather accessories and apparel from the Palm Springs area, V & G Accessories. Replete with an exotic belly dancer, the models set the stage for a seductive and awe-inspiring event. The first "island designer" was Nadya from Indonesia with her classic elegant but casual styles in traditional Bali fabric and pattern. K-Bobby from Jamaica then graced the runway with his eclectic and colorful designs in natural fibres. He was followed by Eric Raisina of Madagascar with a stunning display of silk designs inspired by the designer's cross-cultural influences of Madagascar and Cambodia. The event closed with the eye-popping presentation of the internationally-recognized designer bags of Harl Taylor BAG from The Bahamas. The introduction of the new male line of executive and laptop bags along with the detailed and embellished bridal bag left the audience in awe.
The organizers of the event, Palm Springs Life magazine, look forward to welcoming the Islands of the World Fashion Tour back next year. Owen Bethel, founder of Islands of the World Fashion Week, indicated that the audience response and reception were encouraging, and that "we will certainly consider repeating a presentation at Fashion Week El Paseo next year.
There are several other cities under consideration as we move to expand the reach of the Tour. At the end of the day, the objective is to get the maximum amount of exposure for the designers. For the balance of this year, we will also take several designers to events in Chicago in August, and Miami in October, before the final event for the year in Nassau in November."
